DR. CONVY BALOYI, AFRICAN COVENANT IN GOEIE HANDE

Nuus Suid Afrika. Nuus.

Dr. Baloyi, alombekend as Dr. Convy, is uitverkoop aan Jesus Christus. Hy noem dat hy graag as’t ware toegeknoop wil wees in daardie identiteit.

Yimisa Mdaka), Tsonga.

DR. CONVY BALOYI, AFRICAN COVENANT IN GOOD HANDS

News South Africa. News.News had the wonderful privilege of talking to South Africa’s very own Dr. Convi Baloyi to get to know him better. Enjoy the interview below.

With the energy of a 25-year-old, Dr. Convy Baloyi, leader of the African Covenant (ACO) greeted me for a Zoom meeting during the Covid-19 lockdown. Enthusiastically he answered my questions, transparent and clear. It is apparent that this man has thought deeply about who he is and where he is going.

Dr. Baloyi, affectionately known as Dr. Convy, is sold out to the Lord Jesus Christ. He noted that he wanted to be “locked into that identification”. He was born again more than 20 years ago, after being part of the Presbyterian Church for 10 years. His road to being born again started with his grandmother and maternal uncle who played deciding roles in his spiritual formation as a youngster.

He is a voracious reader and started reading the Bible at a young age. He realized that what his grandmother and uncle had been teaching him were all contained in this wonderful Book. Later in life he read the works of many of the great philosophers and realized that the Word of God was supreme, explaining that most philosophers come to the conclusion that the Bible teaches, yet the Bible is a much older, more complex work. After having read widely and made up his own mind, it was a small step to dedicate himself to Jesus Christ with gusto. Dr. Baloyi and his wife, Emily, are currently facilitating The Kingdom Voice International ministry in Montana, City of Tshwane.

Dr. Baloyi is a dedicated family man and knows that the family is the nucleus from which the community and the nation is built. Beyond that, the respect for people and planet and the values you learn at home are also what will create wellbeing and prosperity for a nation. He put it strongly that he is not a supporter of -isms (socialism, capitalism, communism, etc.) but that God should be supreme in the home and government. His loving wife is quite obviously his biggest supporter and a guiding force in his life. His children were happily doing their own thing around the house at the time of our interview.

The Limpopo born and bred, Dr. Baloyi’s late father (Mr. Gilbert Makananisa) was Venda and his mother (Ms. Yimisa Mdaka) is Tsonga. He was born in a small hospital aptly called Elim and spent a productive primary and secondary school career there before coming to Gauteng for his tertiary education. He has a doctorate in Public Administration which he obtained at the University of South Africa (UNISA).

He smiled when I asked him how he got interested in politics and explained that his studies prepared him for politics and that he has a preoccupation with the welfare of all people. But it was the Bible that cemented his desire to go into politics. To be absolutely sure that he does not quote the Word incorrectly, he opened his Bible and read me Isaiah 9:6-7:
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

From these verses he showed me that government is supposed to be on Jesus’ shoulders and that, when Jesus is the Lord of a country through a head of Government, that country will prosper in every way. A government under Christ draws excellence from the divine package of Jesus being the “wonderful counsellor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace” and it is Him who will ensure that you have a government of peace to which there will be no end. It is Jesus who will be your everlasting Father and your country will never be orphaned. The nation will of necessity be peaceful, strong and mighty and in this way be a guide and a beacon to other nations. Dr. Baloyi is convinced that the role of governing a nation cannot be relegated to the others, it must be the true believers and followers of Jesus Christ (Christians) who take the lead!

As mentioned, his party is called the African Covenant. African, because it is rooted in South Africa, which is part of the African continent, most importantly though it is a covenant. It is the priestly task of the government to connect the nation to God through Jesus Christ. African Covenant is not a party with fancy words and long stories, in fact, it is a party of “politics unusual”, simplified, transparent and without ulterior motives.

The fact is, Dr. Baloyi explained, a nation should have a livelihood that is not based on selfishness. For this reason, he is an advocate for a righteous (Godly) government in South Africa under God. He believes that a nation must be led to be united, have respect and to be orderly. Government officials of a Godly government should come from all walks of life (from the Cape to Limpopo, and Mpumalanga to Northern Cape) to serve and lead the nation with truth, love and selflessness as their guiding principles, and for the benefit of the citizens.

The words that remain with me after concluding our conversation is his emphasis that every individual is special – no matter the race, creed, education or socio-economic status. This is how I will remember Dr. Convy Baloyi, he is a fierce lover of Jesus Christ and the people created by God. Dr. Baloyi’s preoccupation with the welfare of all people shines through each word.
